How to Fix a Pegboard to a Drywall, Concrete, or Brick Wall? The Complete Guide

Mounting is often the first question future buyers ask about a pegboard. "Does it really hold? How do I fix it to my plasterboard wall? What if I have concrete?" Good news: Aire pegboards are designed to be easily installed on all types of surfaces, with the necessary hardware included. Here is the complete guide.

What makes mounting a pegboard different from a regular shelf

A pegboard is not mounted like a simple shelf. To work properly, the panel must be spaced exactly 18 mm from the wall on its front face. This space is essential: it allows stainless steel pins to be inserted from the back of the panel, which gives the accessories their strength and stability.

At Aire, this issue is solved by providing spacers calibrated according to the thickness of the pegboard. For a 15 mm pegboard (P15), the spacers are 3 mm (15+3=18 mm). For a 9 mm pegboard (P9), the spacers are 9 mm (9+9=18 mm). You don’t have to calculate or improvise anything.

Hardware included with each Aire pegboard

Each Aire pegboard comes with all the mounting hardware: Fischer Duopower multi-material screws and anchors (suitable for all common surfaces), spacers calibrated to the pegboard thickness, and a Torx10 key to tighten the pins. The mounting is invisible once the panel is installed.

Mounting on concrete or cinder block

This is the simplest and strongest case. Concrete and cinder block easily accept the supplied Fischer Duopower anchors. Drill a 5.5 or 6 mm hole according to the instructions, insert the anchor, and screw in. The load capacity on this type of surface reaches 160 kg/m², well beyond the usual needs of a domestic pegboard.

Tip: use a drill bit suitable for concrete (SDS or carbide bit). Check for the absence of pipes or electrical cables in the drilling area with a metal detector.

Mounting on brick

Brick is a solid but sometimes heterogeneous surface. The Duopower multi-material anchors adapt very well: their double expansion ensures a firm grip even if the drilling passes through a less dense area. Same procedure as for concrete: drill 5.5-6 mm, load capacity 160 kg/m².

Mounting on BA13 plasterboard partition

Plasterboard (BA13) is the most common surface in modern apartments. It is lighter and less resistant than concrete but perfectly suitable for wall pegboards if a few rules are followed.

The Fischer Duopower multi-material anchors supplied with Aire pegboards are compatible with BA13. Ideally, drill into the metal studs of the partition (spaced about every 60 cm) for maximum hold. If you don’t find a stud, toggle anchors or Molly bolts are also suitable (not supplied but available at hardware stores).

Load capacity on BA13: 55 kg/m². This is more than enough for a pegboard equipped with common accessories (utensils, books, small objects).

The 4 steps to install an Aire pegboard

Step 1: mark the drilling points. Place the pegboard against the wall where you want it, level it with a spirit level, and mark the 4 fixing holes with a pencil through the perforations provided on the panel.

Step 2: drill the wall. Use a drill bit suitable for the surface type (concrete, brick, or plasterboard), diameter 5.5 or 6 mm. Depth: about 40 mm. Vacuum the dust.

Step 3: install the screws and spacers. Insert the Duopower anchors into the holes. Slightly screw in the screws leaving the head protruding about the thickness of the spacer. Place the spacers on the screws. Position the pegboard on top and tighten the screws flush.

Step 4: check the installation. The panel must be flat, firmly anchored, with an 18 mm gap between its front face and the wall. Test the strength by pressing firmly. You can now insert your pins and accessories.

How long does it take to install an Aire pegboard?

In practice, installing an Aire pegboard takes between 10 and 15 minutes for a beginner DIYer. Preparation (marking, drilling) takes the most time. The panel installation itself takes 2 to 3 minutes.

Can you install a pegboard without drilling?

This question often comes up, especially for renters. In theory, no-drill mounting systems exist (ultra-strong double-sided tapes, suction rail systems…), but they are not suitable for the loads of a fully equipped pegboard. For a reliable and lasting installation, 4 small holes remain essential. The good news: the holes left by Aire screws (5.5 or 6 mm) are easily filled with plaster and a bit of paint when you move out.

Frequently asked questions about pegboard mounting

"My wall is tiled, can I still fix my pegboard?" Yes. Ceramic tiles can be drilled with a ceramic or diamond drill bit. Locate the joints to avoid cracking a tile. Duopower anchors also work behind tiles.

"How many screws are needed for a large pegboard?" For L and XL sizes, Aire recommends 6 to 8 fixing points for better load distribution.

"Are the screws visible once the pegboard is installed?" No. The screws are inserted into the pegboard perforations, which disappear into the surface once the panel is installed. The mounting is completely invisible.
