Pegboard kitchen: how to organize your utensils without losing a centimeter of countertop space?

The kitchen is often the most cluttered room in the apartment. Pots, utensils, spices, appliances: the countertop disappears under objects while the walls remain hopelessly bare. This is precisely where the pegboard cuisine comes in — a wooden perforated panel mounted on the wall that transforms this unused surface into a smart, visible, and infinitely adjustable storage space.

What is a pegboard cuisine?

A pegboard is a board pierced with regular holes into which pegs, hooks, shelves, and accessories are inserted to organize or display objects. Its great advantage: total modularity. You can change the layout in seconds, without tools, according to your current needs.

At Aire, pegboards are made in Paris at the CAP18 workshop (18th arrondissement), from Finnish birch plywood, with a refined finish — natural raw wood sanded, matte oiled, or stained in the color of your choice. The holes are spaced 30 mm center to center, with a diameter of 6.1 mm, perfectly compatible with the entire Aire accessory range.

Why is the kitchen wall so underused?

In most kitchens, the walls remain bare while drawers overflow. We look for horizontal space when the solution is vertical. An M size pegboard (96 x 48 cm) fixed between the countertop and the hanging cabinets offers an immediately accessible storage surface, without taking up a single centimeter of countertop.

Unlike base cabinets or fixed shelves, the pegboard adapts to your uses: hooks for ladles and spatulas, shelves for spices, utensil pots, rods for towels… Each accessory can be repositioned in seconds.

Which utensils to store on a pegboard cuisine?

The pegboard is especially effective for everyday items you want immediately at hand. You can hang spatulas, ladles, skimmers, cooking tongs, knives with a suitable hook, lightweight cutting boards, jars of spices and herbs, paper towel rolls, oven mitts, or even a small shelf to hold a bottle of oil or salt.

The Aire shelf for pegboards is perforated on the edge — an exclusive innovation that prevents any unexpected falls, unlike simple shelves resting on dowels. Safety and aesthetics guaranteed.

What size to choose for a pegboard cuisine?

Aire offers several standard sizes suitable for all spaces:

  • Size S (48 x 48 cm): ideal for a small corner or targeted area
  • Size M (96 x 48 cm): the standard for a typical kitchen, between countertop and cabinet
  • Size L (96 x 96 cm): for an open kitchen or a whole wall dedicated to storage
  • Custom sizes available up to 147 x 248 cm per panel

Aire pegboards come in 9 mm thickness (light version) or 15 mm (standard version with shelves). The M size in 15 mm weighs about 7.5 kg — easily supported by any wall.

Installation: can you install a pegboard in a tiled kitchen?

Yes, absolutely. The mounting requires only 4 discreet anchor points. Aire pegboards come with Fischer Duopower multi-material screws and plugs, compatible with concrete, brick, cinder block, and drywall (BA13). Drilling is done with 5.5 or 6 mm bits.

A spacer is provided to leave 18 mm of space between the back of the pegboard and the wall — essential for inserting pins and accessories from behind. The mounting is invisible once the panel is installed. Installation takes less than 10 minutes.

Load capacity: up to 160 kg/m² on concrete or cinder block, 55 kg/m² on BA13 partition.

Maintenance of the pegboard in the kitchen

Aire pegboards made of birch plywood are easy to maintain: a dry or slightly damp cloth is enough. It is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct steam. For very active kitchens, models with tinted oil offer additional surface protection.

Conclusion: free up your countertop

Installing a pegboard in your kitchen immediately gains you space, clarity, and efficiency. Everything is visible, accessible, and reorganizable at will — without extra furniture, without invasive drilling, and with a refined aesthetic result. Made in Paris, designed to last: the Aire pegboard is the exact opposite of disposable storage.
